We have entered the last month of 2017. Thanksgiving is behind us and Christmas is just around the corner. Between the holiday parties, Christmas shopping, and other events, it is easy to fall into that holiday “slump” and to put off doing things until the New Year.
I encourage everyone to take some time and enjoy the holiday season. However, don’t let your career plans get off track just because the holiday season is here. For you to start the New Year off on the right foot, you must end this year in a good way.
Here are four end-of-the-year career moves you can take right now:
- Get Clarity. The holidays are a great time to reflect on what really matters to us. Use this time to determine what you really want out of life and to decide on the career changes you must make to ensure that this happens.
- Update your CV/Resume. Having an updated CV/resume is essential for the job search process. The holiday season is a good time to update these items so that they will be available for your job search.
- Get your medical license. Having an active unrestricted medical license is essential for you to start working as an attending physician. Because the licensing process can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months depending on the state, the sooner you start the process, the sooner you will be able to work.
- Start looking for jobs now. The physician job search process, whether it be for locums or permanent positions, can take between three to six months. The sooner you start looking for jobs, the better. Take some time during the holidays to visit some physician job search websites, contact some potential employers, and start talking with recruiters.
